Beside a environmentally friendly energy supply it is the drinking water supply which means an important theme of mankind.

The importance of such issues becomes evident in the expansion of deserts, sinking ground water levels and the melting of polar caps.

Although these problems seem to be far away from German soil, also we are affected by the climate change as problems like torrential rain showers, floods and tornados.

The inexorable rising sea level will only be controllable by immense efforts such as extensions of dams, resettlement of entire people as for instance on Tuvalu, Fidschi or the Maldives.

When looking at these problems realistically it is obvious that these global problems will not be stopped through German efforts. What is needed is an international effort.

Still, commitment is worthwhile with our chances lying within the commercialisation of environmental technologies.

A good example of this is the EEG which promotes the development of technologies producing energy of renewable energies. Our government is challenged to smooth the path for German industries and to support development projects to that effect.
